The Last Lion
Burwood Chinatown NSW

2022 Winner: Best Entrance Art

Australia white png.png

Burwood Chinatown in inner Sydney is dressed to impress thanks to 'The Last Lion' - a landmark mural by Sophi Odling and Christina Huynh.

Commissioned by Burwood Council in partnership with Burwood Chinatown and supported by 4a Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, this mural creates a dazzling entrance to the Burwood Chinatown Precinct.

It's there that Australian and Asian culture comes together, with street and home-style food the common language that transforms the lane from a daytime urban pantry into a vibrant night time eat street.

With 30+ hawker style eateries featuring some of the latest trends from Asia and some nostalgic home style cooking, Burwood Chinatown attracts food lovers from all over Sydney.

Hand-pulled noodle soup followed by fried ice cream under a canopy of shimmering lanterns with a sweet dose of street art, anyone?

Where? Burwood Chinatown is located at 127–133 Burwood Road, Burwood, in inner Sydney. The Last Lion is on the northern side off the Railway Terrace corner.

Best viewing times: Anytime, but at night neon lights bring the lion to life in a special way.
