Currumbin Beach, on the southern section of the Gold Coast, is paradise rediscovered. Pristine beaches, friendly locals, iconic Elephant Rock Lookout and, best of all, once a year it showcases world-class sculpture in abundance.

SWELL Sculpture Festival is Queensland's largest annual outdoor sculpture festival, celebrating 20 years of connecting people, art and place in September 2022. SWELL is a festival of experiences, a sensory symphony where the natural landscape of Currumbin Beach is transformed into a stunning sculpture gallery for all to enjoy.

Inviting engagement with public street art through sculpture, performance and conversations. SWELL is for everyone!

SWELL Sculpture Festival showcases over 70 large-scale sculptures along Currumbin Beach and over 50 smaller-scale works of art in SWELL Smalls Gallery and vibrant performing arts programming created by nationally and internationally renowned artists.

Many artists contribute each year to making SWELL a success. In 2022 those artists included one featured on this page: Alejandro Propato. It is his 'Permanent Sunrise' piece that is the main image (taken by Embellysh).

What? An annual sculpture festival on the Gold Coast offering far more than sculptures alone thanks to the participation of artists in various activities.

Best viewing times: Only during the September festival. Sunrise on Currumbin Beach is beautiful at any time, and made even more spectacular by these artworks.

Next Festival: 8 - 17 September 2023
